Looking for the easiest caramel cream cheese frosting recipe? You've found it! This cream cheese frosting recipe uses whipped cream as its base, making it stable and pipeable. You don't even need butter or powdered sugar to make this cream cheese frosting. This is the perfect frosting for your next cake or cupcake recipe and it generously frosts a two-layer 8-inch cake or 12-16 cupcakes!

This caramel cream cheese frosting starts with my same go-to cream cheese frosting without butter recipe!
Making whipped cream means our base of the frosting is stable, so you can use it to decorate cakes and cupcakes and not worry about it collapsing or being runny.
I then decided to add some of my favorite homemade salted caramel sauce and boom, the perfect caramel frosting! You can of course always use store-bought caramel sauce, I won't tell!
This is the perfect amount of frosting to generously frost a two-layer 8-inch cake, like I did in my apple cake with cream cheese frosting!
Just Six Ingredients

- Make sure you're using full-fat cream cheese, it'll really make all the difference.
- We'll make a base of whipped cream by, you guessed it, whipping up cream! Use heavy cream or double cream if you're in the UK.
- I used my homemade salted caramel sauce but you could swap it out for store-bought caramel sauce. You don't want it to be hot when you use it, or it'll melt the frosting.
The Easiest Frosting

Combine heavy cream, sugar, salt, and vanilla until thick.

Add cream cheese and beat together.

Beat in the salted caramel, whip on high speed for 3 minutes.
Pro tip
Room Temperature Caramel
When adding your caramel sauce to the cream cheese frosting, make sure it is at room temperature. Adding warm or hot caramel sauce will cause the frosting to deflate and melt! If making caramel at home, I like to make it the day before and leave it in the fridge overnight.
