Hey, Hi, Hello!
I'm Ella, the recipe developer, food photographer, and writer behind Alpine Ella, a baking site dedicated to classic, approachable desserts that look far more impressive than the effort involved.

I'm based in London, but grew up between Switzerland and Colorado, and launched Alpine Ella in July 2020 after leaving a corporate career to pursue food and photography full-time.
I'm entirely self-taught as a baker, though I've trained at Peggy Porschen, Bread Ahead, and La Cucina Caldesi along the way, and once won a workplace Bake Off judged by Great British Bake Off winner Frances Quinn (salted caramel peanut macarons, since you asked).
Five Quick Things About Me!
- I have eaten dessert every single day for as long as I can remember. No exceptions.
- My first baking memory involves an Easy-Bake Oven and a firm conviction I could do better. (I could not. Chocolate omelet.)
- The first thing I bought when I moved to London for university was a stand mixer. Still have it, and it features in more recipes than I can count!
- When I'm not in the kitchen, I cross-stitch, craft, and read.
- Leftovers go to friends, family, neighbours, and a local food waste app!
So, welcome! I hope you find a recipe that becomes a new favourite, and if you have questions, want to talk baking, or just need someone to validate your decision to make brownies on a Tuesday, I'm here.
