Why you'll love this recipe!
- Easy to Make: you only need 6 ingredients and 15 minutes to make this strawberry cream cheese frosting.
- Strawberry Flavor: using freeze-dried strawberries means you get an intense strawberry flavor that packs a punch.
- Cakes or Cupcakes: this is great to use on cakes or cupcakes. It isn't a pipeable frosting because of the cream cheese, so just keep that in mind!
Ingredients Needed
- Freeze-Dried Strawberries: you can find these at Trader Joe's, Target or Amazon. I've been asked before if you can swap out freeze-dried strawberries for fresh or frozen strawberries but I don't recommend doing that, they have too much moisture!
- Confectioners' Sugar: also known as powdered sugar or icing sugar. Make sure you sift it before adding it to the frosting or your frosting will be lumpy.
- Cream Cheese: be sure to use full-fat cream cheese.
Top Tip
If you're based in Europe and your cream cheese comes in tubs instead of packets, pat it dry with a paper towel before using. Cream cheese in tubs has more moisture than regular cream cheese, and this is the easiest way to remove that excess moisture!
How to Make Strawberry Cream Cheese Frosting
Step 1: In the bowl of a stand mixer, or a large bowl with an electric mixer, beat the room-temperature butter with the cold cream cheese until smooth.
Step 2: Add the sifted powdered sugar a cup at a time on low speed.
Step 3: Add the freeze-dried strawberry powder, salt and vanilla extract. Beat on low speed until combined.
Step 4: Use immediately and enjoy!
Expert Tips & Tricks
- Different Fruits: what's amazing about this recipe is that you can swap out the freeze-dried strawberries for another fruit! Just use an equal amount of freeze-dried blueberry powder, cherries, or blackberries!
- Cold Cream Cheese: I usually recommend that all of your ingredients be at room temperature, but because cream cheese can be kind of finicky, I suggest you keep it cold!
- Amount of Frosting: this recipe makes enough to generously frost a 2-layer cake.
