Homemade Salted Caramel

Sprinkle 1/4 cup of sugar into a small saucepan. Over medium-low heat, let the sugar dissolve. 

Once the sugar has dissolved, add another 1/4 cup of sugar. Continue until all the sugar has been dissolved.

Stir until the sugar turns a dark amber color. 

Add the butter a piece at a time, be careful as it will sputter!

Pour in the heavy cream, vanilla extract and salt. 

Pour into a jar and let cool, then place in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. 

Use as a topping for cheesecake, like this turtle pie!

Or drizzle on top of ice cream and apple pie!
